A great day spa offers incredible spa messages. This after all, is what most spas are known for. With a multitude of massage types from hot stone, to deep tissue, to even pre-natal, they make it their business to really cater to clients. At Inspire Day Spa located in Scottsdale Arizona, we truly do focus on our clients’ needs with amazing massage treatments and the best therapists around.
In thinking about spa messages, we want to consider the origins of massage. In other words, how did it all begin? When and where did spas start offering such relaxing treatment options to customers? Here is a brief background on the history of the spa message.
Massages & Spas: A Love-Love Relationship
It actually all stems from what ancient civilization saw as the healing powers of natural springs. Even before Greek and Roman times, people turn to ancient baths to treat and soothe as early as 25 BC. From there, the belief that baths and hot springs especially could bring greater comfort particularly to those who were suffering, became very popular.
It wasn’t until the 1300s that the term spa really starts to come into play. Again, centering around the concept that natural springs were restorative, the very first spa starts in appropriately enough, Spa, Belgium. And from that point on, the rest, as they say, is history.
So when did massage become a spa staple? There’s no exact date that we know of as far as when the concept of massage gets interconnected with the idea of a spa. In the 1800s the first North American spa comes about. It is around this time that massage may have been part of the offerings.
